Priest and armor Empty Priest and armor

I always felt that certain priest should be able to wear armor. Namely, Ares and Zeus. While others such as Artemis and Apollo should wield bows.

While combing through the previous posts I came across this.

Mmmh... that's both clever and simple. I like it.

Perhaps this could work.

Note that this topic has been addressed in the Revised rules : the various class descriptions explicitly state that magicians are not supposed to wear armor as this detracts from their magical abilities. The solution suggested in the previous post would only work with the Original rules (in which Power expenditure was 1d6 each time you used a magical power, while in the revised rules the expense is equal to the magnitude of the power).

That being said, for those of you who use the Revised rules (and who doesn't ? Smile ) and who don't like the arbitrary "magicians shouldn't wear armor, period" approach, here is a quick optional rule :

Each piece of protective equipment (helmet, shield or breastplate) subtracts 1 from the magician's Magical Talent. Thus, a Sorcerer with a Psychic Gift of 4 wearing a breastplate and a helmet (two pieces of protective equipment) would have an effective Psychic Gift of 2. This reduction will always make the character's powers less effective and IMO works better than increasing the Power expenditure.

On second thoughts, a -2 penalty would be more appropriate - this way, even a single piece of armor would be quite hindering for magicians.

And since the topic specifically mentions Priests, we could reduce the penalty to -1 for items which are specifically associated with the Priest's patron deity (eg "breastplates of Ares", "helmets of Athena" etc).

I think I'll include this optional rule in the forthcoming n°3 of the webzine.
